Who are the Pink Pacers?

The Pink Pacers were formed in 2006 when 2 women came together to walk 39.3 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Anne (a 6-year survivor) and Katy raised $6,000 that first year and have not stopped since.  After participating in 5 Avon Walks for Breast Cancer and having raised over $132,000 for the Avon Foundation, the Pink Pacers decided to switch gears and focus their energy closer to home.  Today, the Pink Pacers have grown into a large group of men, women and children (Jr. Pink Pacers) dedicated to making a difference in the lives of families affected by cancer in their local community.

In 2010 and 2011 the Pink Pacers focus has been with Get REAL & HEEL, an after care program for Breast Cancer survivors. In that time they were able to raise $80,000 through UNC Gymnastics’ Health Fairs, The Bridging the Gap Walk in 2010, The 2011 Get Heeled 5K and random donations.

In 2012, The Pink Pacers were thrilled to raise $40,000 for childhood cancer, specifically Family Supportive Care at the UNC Lineberger Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic . They absolutely love their mission and feel blessed to help spread the word and raise funds about this horrible disease. Through volunteering for local running events, organizing health fairs or organizing our own Get Heeled 5K, we hope to make a positive impact in the local community.

Over the past 6 years, The Pink Pacers have raised more then $260,000 for cancer.
